The mess the world is in

The short version:
There are a lot of problems in the world.

Our ability to produce energy is coming into trouble as fossil fuels, and particularly oil begin to run short. We are about to or already are running short of many other rare minerals and resources that we need to maintain our society as we have been. We are running short of some of the largest, most important resources, such as food and water.

At the same time we have been negligent of our waste stream, such as when we get in a car, we have not cared about the carbon dioxide polluting the environment, and this is now triggering global warming. This is just one waste stream of many we are not considering. There are others not so globaly disastrous, such as landfill spaces running out, radioactive waste and likely there will be consequences for others we are not yet even aware of.

In short, resources are running out and we are drowning in our own waste. We are not living sustainably.

Meanwhile, our political system seems ineffective, education seems to be producing more robots of the system and the media can’t help but pander to the powers that be.

These are very important problems that need attending to.

But none of these is the most important problem.

These problems are a subset of a larger problem and that problem is us; you and me. More specifically, the root of the problem lies in the way in which we value, think about, and live in the world. If we do not work on this more encompassing problem then all we will be doing is putting a sticking plaster on an amputated limb. We will just shuffle the problem around until it engulfs us.

So what is it about us that is unable to value this world in a sustainable manner?

This blog is an exploration of these issues and some possible solutions.

The long version:
The short version condensed the worlds issues to a single problem. Another way of looking at things would be to say there is no single problem, but a meshwork of interrelated problems connected through complex feedback systems. This website looks at both these complex world issues we are facing whilst also considering the manner in which we are considering the issues.
