… and what we can do about it
A good friend of mine called Peter Findlay is a proffesional story teller, a hard proffesion to make a living from, yet he is making it work. He puts so much effort into it because he loves telling stories, he calls it ‘following his bliss’. In writting this website, and exloring some possible solutions to the problems facing society, I also am following my bliss. This website is my sketchbook of thoughts that I think could be helpful, they are intended to inspire. I can’t promise to fully reference and document all my ideas, many have been turning over in my head for years and it would take me far more time than I have available to do that. I think that there are many things we can all do to make the world more sustainable, the really important ones are not simply about changing the lighbulbs, but involve deep introspection into the way in which we live and the things that we value, I’d like to write much more about this in the future.
One of the first things I think we need to do is find or develop the tools that we need to analyse the world situation. The best psychological model that I have encountered to date that can aid here is Graves, Emergent-Cyclical Levels of Existence Theory, also known as Spiral Dynamics. Many of my posts will reference this.
This is by no means the only topic I am interested in though. A few that come to mind are:-
- Open source media
- Subsidised new media access.
- Open source finance. Removing human suffering and monoply from the capitalist economy whilst keeping the benefits of a competitive free market.
- Open government and active democracy.
- Problems with open source and FS dominance: DQ development to ER requires deception (theory)
- Privacy and transparency.
- Working with evolution rather than against it. (eg http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/259)
As I write about topics I will return here to edit this list.
